GRAVEL

A Man's Cologne

The Story behind "GRAVEL - A MAN’S COLOGNE"

The Scent GRAVEL - A MAN’S COLOGNE

The fragrances

After his death, Gravel Cologne disappeared from the market for a few years, and the fragrances became sought-after vintage scents that were in great demand among collectors. Georg and Christian Blessing shared this fascination and succeeded in creating to breathe new life into this piece of American perfume history after years of absence. Father and son are still attached to the old Knudsen values, so each bottle is still filled by hand and Gravel is only available in selected boutiques.

back then

Michael B. Knudsen (born 1911 in Sweden) founded Gravel Cologne in New York in 1957. At that time it was very unusual to use perfume, especially for men. Supported by his close friend Hazel Guggenheim, he decided to change this and developed the first men's fragrance in the USA: Gravel A Man's Cologne. He set himself a monument and the prelude to numerous legendary perfume creations. Knudsen personally supervised the production and bottling until his death at the age of 98. Thanks to him and his dedication, Gravel Cologne became one of the oldest perfume brands in the USA still available today.
